"You are not fully educated until you are physically educated!"

Welcome to JANE ADDAMS MIDDLE SCHOOL P.E! Where Physical Education is not just a class, but a way of life. My name is Mr. Sagastume. I was born and raised in Hawthorne, California. Both of my parents were born and raised in Guatemala. Spanish was the first language I learned, and I am proud to be bilingual in a world where communication is so valuable.

I received my Bachelor’s Degree and Teaching Credential in Physical Education from the California State University of Long Beach. I became a Physical Education teacher because of the many positive experiences I had growing up being involved in physical activities. Sports for example, improved my self-esteem, regulated my emotions, helped manage problem solving, made me goal oriented, helped me gain sharper social skills and flourished my academic performance.

Physical Education is an integral part of the education program for all students. It teaches students how their bodies move and how to perform a variety of physical activities. Students learn the health-related benefits of regular physical activity and the skills to adopt a physically active, healthy lifestyle. Physical Education also provides learning experiences that meet the developmental needs of students. Within our class students will learn to; set and strive for personal, achievable goals; learn to assume leadership; cooperate with others; accept responsibility for their own behavior; and, ultimately, improve their academic performance.

I am excited about this year and am looking forward to getting to know each and every one of my students. Here is to a successful and fun 2018-19 school year!
